Bourne Free Does Broadway!
This year’s Bournemouth pride parade is going to be an extravaganza of glitz and feathers as Bourne Free Does Broadway! From the 10th-12th July the people of Bournemouth come together to celebrate LGBT community in a way only they know how!
What Is Bourne Free?
In 2004 Bourne Free was created when news spread that an organisation was coming to Bournemouth to preach that homosexuality is wrong. The gay community banded together to stand against them and celebrate their diversity and to hold Bournemouth’s first gay Pride march. Since then the event has flourished and grown into a huge three day party to bring everyone in the community together.
Bourne Free is now a registered charity run by trustees and volunteers, as well as contributors from the LGBT community and local businesses. This year they will be supporting Ashley’s Birthday Bank, a charity that reaches out to underprivileged children and gives them gifts on birthdays and special occasions.
What To Expect?
The three day event is kicked off on Friday with the return of the big screen! Each year an outdoor cinema is set up for everyone to enjoy for free, this time they will be showing The Sound of Music. There will also be on stage entertainment from Jenny Castell, who will be performing as Elsa from the Disney hit Frozen!
Saturday is when the real magic happens though with the Bourne Free parade! Floats and walking groups will set off from East Cliff at 11am and head through and around the town, finishing up at the Triangle at Midday. With a Broadway theme, there will undoubtedly be droves of divas and show girls (and boys) galore! We can’t wait to see what characters will be dancing their way through our streets this year. Throughout the day there will be a whole host stalls and activitioes
On stage in the Triangle there will be a whole host of acts for you to enjoy including Big Brovaz vs. Booty Luv, 2 Shoes and The Brooks from X-Factor! Of course, it wouldn’t be a pride event without a good bit of drag and there will be plenty of queens taking over the stage on Saturday, including Dave Lynn.
On Sunday at 12 noon there will be a special pride service held by the Metropolitan Community Church followed by coffee and cake at Flirt Cafe. Sunday will also see the return of the always popular Triangle Tour! There will also be bingo with Miss Jason between 2pm and 4pm.
