Bournemouth Christmas Festival
There is nothing more magical than Christmas time. Just the thought of it can warm you right to the core. Here in Bournemouth there is plenty to keep you in the festive spirit the whole way through the season, so dig out your Christmas hats and come on down to town.
In the heart of Bournemouth you will find the German inspired Christmas market. Here you will be greeted with huts selling all manners of delights; from warm chestnuts to cosy clothing. This year features some stunning jewellery, gorgeous leatherwork and beautifully handcrafted sculptures and ornaments, perfect for those extra special Christmas gifts. If you get peckish with all that shopping then you’re in for a treat! Delicious aromas fill the air with traditional German bratwurst, a scrumptious hog roast and a huge array of confectionary available fresh from the stalls.
If you’re in need of a break, or if the ladies need a place to park their husbands while they shop, then we have our very own Christmas staple, The Moose Bar! A traditional Alpine style bar with a beer garden serving up German lagers and warm mulled wines all under the watchful eye of an enormous joke telling moose! Enjoy a tipple out of the well know festive boot mugs or delve into all the Christmas spirits! This year, be in with the chance of winning a cash prize by taking a photo of yourself at the Moose Bar in your Christmas outfit and uploading it to S&D Leisure’s Facebook page! Don't forget to pop into Hollywood to find yourself the perfect costumes and accessories to help you win!
No traditional Christmas market would be complete without the magic and awe of a colourful carousel! Most of you will recognise this Bournemouth treasure as it is a seaside attraction on pier approach during the summer months. Young or old, we all stop to watch the horses bob round and contemplate a quick go. Go on, treat yourself! It’s Christmas after all.
Of course, nothing can bring more festive joy than the turning on of the Christmas lights. This year on Friday 28th November Bournemouth will be hosting a new light procession starring the cast of this year’s pantomime, Peter Pan. The procession will start at both Horseshoe Common and the Triangle, come down through the square and meet in the lower gardens as part of the switching on ceremony. Children and families are being encouraged to bring lights and join in the procession which will mark the opening of the award winning Gardens of Light. The gardens are completely free to explore and filled with fun and interactive displays, with new and exciting features for 2014. But it’s not just light pods to see, oh no, there is a traditional Santa’s grotto and a fantastic ice skating rink to enjoy too! If all of this doesn’t sound like enough entertainment, then there is even a stage up and running in the heart of the square to bring a true festival spirit to Christmas. There will be a huge range of acts showing everyday that the market is open, so there will always be something to see and hear. Nothing breaks through the noisy hustle and bustle like an angelic choir or beautiful brass band so be sure to take a moment to watch and listen while you’re shopping this Christmas. The Bournemouth Christmas festival is here all the way up until Sunday 4th January so there is plenty of time to enjoy everything that is on show.
