Ok, so let’s talk about Suicide Squad... It may not have received glowing reviews from all of the critics, but that hasn’t stopped people flocking in their thousands to catch a glimpse of DC’s best bad guys! The Stars We’ve known the stars of this movie for a long time now and marketing weren’t shy with the teasers and clips. Margot Robbie was the perfect blend of sexy and kooky for her role as Harley Quinn. It will definitely be one of the most iconic roles of her career and we hope to see more of her in upcoming DC movies! Will Smith will always be a great action hero and Suicide Squad proves he’s still got it. He’s stern, strong and the perfect person to play Dead Shot. He also delivers one of the best comedy lines of the movie when referring to the Doomsday machine as a “swirling ring of trash”. Apart from little snippet’s and stills, we didn’t get to see too much of Jared Leto’s Joker. He definitely made this role his own with sarcasm and psychosis that rivals Jack Nicholson’s rendition. Heath Ledger did leave some very big shoes to fill and we’re not sold that Leto was the man to do it. Continue reading →

It may be a man’s world, but these girls have super powers and they’re not afraid to use them! Superhero Girls We’ve all heard of Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Woman; now see where it all began with this stunning animated re-imagining of the ladies of DC. We were all kids once and it can be hard growing up different. These girls may have super powers, but honing your skills is always important, that’s why they go to Super Hero High! Just like us, the Superhero Girls aren’t perfect, Supergirl is clumsy, Poison Ivy is shy and Harley Quinn is just downright unpredictable! Flaws aside, they are all exceptional in their own way and if they work together they can do anything, but not without a few challenges along the way.   Continue reading →

So far the new Ghostbusters movie has received a very mixed reception of praise and criticism. The first movie trailer was notoriously the most disliked YouTube has seen! We’ll just have to wait until this Friday (15th July) to find out for ourselves if this will be a huge hit or a massive flop! Ghostbusters In 1984 the world was given the gift of Ghostbusters with the original movie starring acting legends Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver. The Ray Parker Jr. theme tune “Who You Gonna Call?” was catchy, the acting was comical and the action was spot on. What more could you want? Well a sequel of course! While it wasn’t as big as the original, it still received high praise. Since then, it has kept a strong cult following and merchandise has always been available with that iconic logo. For one whole week the picturesque seaside town of Swanage will be transformed for the Swanage Regatta and Carnival! There will be something to do for all ages every day so make the most of it and head down from the 30th July to the 6th August! Swanage Regatta The sun is shining so why not try your hand at some sporting events? Prizes will be on offer for all age groups throughout the week, so show them what you’ve got! There will be plenty on offer including fun runs, tennis, sailing, darts and even fishing. Sadly there will be no half marathon this year due to safety concerns and road closures, Swanage Carnival This year’s carnival procession will have a ‘Sitcom’ theme so expect to see all of your favourite TV characters old and new! As always it will take place on the Sunday 31st July at 3pm and will begin at Rabling Road, coming full circle back to that point. On Monday 4th July the USA will be alive with celebration of their most famous national holiday! This year will mark the 240th year. Why The 4th July? The 4th July is a holiday known worldwide and is a celebration of American independence. In 1776 the second continental congress met in secret to vote on the resolution of independence to separate them from the rule of Great Britain. The Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975-2016 The 2 hour television show will be celebrating Rocky Horror’s 40 years of theatrical distribution, which is longer than any film in history! It’s such a popular movie that it still shows in cinemas today and there have been countless stage shows across the world. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was everything you could have asked for in a film. It had mystery, scares, glitz and the catchiest songs in the history of cinema, what’s not to love?! At the heart of it all was actor and legend Tim Curry who owned the role of sexually ambiguous Dr Frank N Furter. He delivered his lines like he was born for the role and the energy was infectious. It’s been an exciting FA Cup and now it’s all coming to a close with a head to head between Manchester United and Crystal Palace! On Saturday 21st May, watch as these boys make history at Wembley Stadium. The FA Cup Final 2016 marks the 135th FA Cup Final, making it the world’s oldest football competition! History is repeating itself this year too as it will be the first time since 1990 that Manchester United and Crystal Palace have gone against each other in the FA Cup Final. We’re still riding on the buzz of Star Wars “The Force Unleashed” and now we’re excitedly anticipating Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! With all the hype, this is sure to be the biggest May the 4th yet! May The 4th This is a date in the diary of every Star Wars fan across the globe. While Star Wars Day isn’t considered an official holiday it is celebrated worldwide by the adoring fans of the Star Wars films. The date was an obvious choice due to the pun of “May the force be with you”. Not only the 4th, but the 5th of May became part of the celebration with “Revenge of the 5th” a play on words of the Star Wars movie “Revenge of the Sith”. May is special for many reasons for die hard Star Wars fans as it is also George Lucas’ birthday on May 14th and also because all of the original 6 live action films were released in may. Why Lucas Film did not pioneer Star Wars Day, they were certainly happy to embrace it and join their fans in celebrating it each year. In late 2012 Disney bought Lucas Film, including the rights to Star Wars and since has held Star Wars themed events at their parks during the month of May. After the huge success of The Force Unleashed we can all breathe easy that the franchise is in good hands. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this household name in Sci-Fi greatness. Spider-Man has long been on the receiving end of jokes, memes and jibes for being outcast by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well all of that is about to change! Spider-Man Homecoming In 2017 Spider-Man Homecoming will see Spidey's first MCU movie of his own! It has also been announced that it will feature Iron Man after Robert Downey Jr. signed a deal to be in the movie. Sony and Marvel were reportedly keen to get Downey Jr. on board for Spider-Man after seeing their chemistry in Captain America Civil War. Michael Keaton was rumoured to be playing the main villain of the film, but unfortunately these have been dashed. So who will be the main antagonist of the new movie? Previous Spider-man films have used up a lot of the main villains, but will we be seeing something new with this release? Filming is expected to start in June, so hopefully a rushed decision won’t be a bad one! Continue reading →

It is a face off we could see coming since the first Avengers movie, but now it is here and we can’t wait any longer! Captain America finds himself on the other side of the fence when collateral damage from an incident involving the Avengers calls for politicians take action in restricting their activity. The team are divided into an all out Civil War and you can witness it in cinemas from Friday 29th April! Captain America The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been expanding, merging and crossing over at every turn and for Captain America: Civil War we see a whole host of characters come together! We will see Falcon, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Black Panther and even Spiderman will finally be included! The new Captain America film shows him heading a new team of Avengers who are continuing to keep humanity safe. After yet another incident causes collateral damage, pressure is mounted to create a system where superheroes would be held accountable for their actions. This new found status-quo splits the Avengers team down the middle and they are forced to take sides, with Captain America who wishes to remain free of oppression and Iron Man who has curiously decided to support the overseeing. The biggest comic convention in Britain is coming and it is going to be awesome! While Bournemouth has done well taking on its own film and comic con event, it is simply dwarfed by the magnitude of the MCM Comic Con in London. There will be stalls as far as the eye can see selling memorabilia, comics, signed prints and plenty of handmade goodies too. It’s time for the musical extravaganza that is the Eurovision Song Contest! Countries from all across Europe are gathering their finest to go up against each other and the continent as they are voted for in their thousands. The Contest is hosted by the country that has won it the year before, so this year it will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. This is the 3rd time the European Song Contest has been held there, first time was way back in 1975, then again in 2000 and now 2016! What is the Eurovision Song Contest? Eurovision or ESC for short is the longest running annual televised song competition. Participants from all different countries will pick an original song to be performed live! Then they will cast votes for the other countries’ songs to determine what the most popular song throughout the competition is. Eurovision started way back in 1956 when only 7 countries took part, in 2008 there were a record of 43 countries. The Contest has been running every year for 60 years making this its 61st! Wow! As suggested in the title, this blog contains SPOILERS of Batman Vs Superman! If you don’t want to ruin the film for yourself I suggest you go and watch it now! P.S. Superman dies..... Batman Vs Superman So if you’ve seen Batman Vs Superman you will know that it is basically just one giant DC Easter Egg! With so many links and hints to other characters and comics it’s hard to know where to start. The Robin suit, for instance, heavily implies that he was killed off by the Joker. Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) is seen to be opening meta-human files of Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg in the order of the films upcoming releases. Batman’s Knightmare scene hints that Darkseid will soon make an appearance as it contains both his parademons and his Omega emblem.  Even Green Lantern’s love interest, Carol Ferris, has a cameo in the new movie. And even with all of these hidden gems, people still hated this movie! The trick is to use the comics as a reference, not other superhero movies. Continue reading →
