Festival season will be in full swing soon, so it’s time to start thinking about how you can dress up! The Isle of Wight Festival took place from June 13-15th and the famous Glastonbury Music Festival will be taking place on the 25-29th of June. If you are attending these fun festivals, the experience is so much more entertaining when you can dress up in a fun and interesting outfit.

But sometimes dressing up can be more difficult than it sounds. With so many options out there, how do you choose the best fancy dress costume? If you are looking for some inspiration for your festival fancy dress costume this year, here are some fun and playful ideas to keep in mind.

Mythological Creatures and Animals

Bestival 2014 will have a wildlife theme, so why not attend in a fun animal costume or dress as a mythological beast? You could wear a horned headpiece and some furry legs and dress as a satyr. Perhaps you could even find a bull’s head costume so you could dress as a Minotaur!

It can also be a lot of fun to dress up as an animal such as a cat, rabbit, dog, bear, deer or a bird. Animal costumes tend to be low-fuss, comfortable and easy to wear.

Royal Glamour

At the Secret Garden Party this year, the theme will be “Standing on Ceremony”. This is the perfect opportunity to dress up as royalty with plenty of gorgeous 18th century dresses, jewellery and crowns. You could simply be a royal historic version of yourself or you could dress as a particular person, such as Marie Antoinette or Louis XIV.

Matching Costumes

Burlesque TutuIf you are attending the festival with your friends or your significant other, why not consider putting together matching costumes that go together in a theme? For example, you could all dress as Smurfs, as a hunter and a deer, as kings and queens or all wear costumes from different popular movies. When all of your costumes co-ordinate together, it can be a lot of fun to pose together for photos and also help you make a few friends while your there.

These are just a few ideas to get you started preparing your fancy dress costume for the next festival you attend. A great deal of the fun includes the anticipation of planning your costume and putting it together, as well as the act of getting dressed up on the day itself. Be creative on this year’s festival scene and have fun playing dress up while enjoying the many great events throughout the country this summer!
