Bonfire Night and Diwali
Who doesn’t like a good firework show? Firework celebrations at this time of year are however, at opposite poles. Between the cloak and dagger of betrayal which is bonfire night, and the festival of sharing and enlightenment which is Diwali. This season has all the fun and drama of a full year. However this miss match comes back together before too long as New Year’s Eve brings harmony to the firework season.
Bonfire Night
Bonfire Night is celebrated on the 5th of November. This allows us to remember the attempted assignation of King James 1st at parliament in 1609 by Guy Fawkes. Fawkes was paid by the Pope of the time to remove the king so that the Catholic Church could return to England and displace the rightful rulers.
Diwali
On the other hand, Diwali celebrates success of Lords against demons , protecting humans. But which demon depends on where in India you are from. In the North the story says the king defeated Ravana by lighting jars of candles. In the South, Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura. And in the west Lord Vishnu sent the demon king Bali to the nether world. However all of India celebrates a 5 day festival of sharing and light.
