St George's Day 2025
St George's Day 2025 is fast approaching. It’s that time of year that we all raise a glass and drink to the patron Saint of England. St. George. Who was a roman officer who didn’t even visit England. However, he became the patron saint of our small island.
How did a Roman officer become the patron saint of a country he didn’t even visit?
St. George built a reputation for his bravery and virtuous acts as a roman and Christian. George embodied all the characteristics that we here on our small island believe to be the best of us all. In displaying these behaviours, he inspired his troops to be the best, most virtuous versions of themselves. This could be why he was chosen as the patron saint of England.
On the 23rd of April, the anniversaries of his death, the people of England celebrate this heroic figure. Traditionally the festivities include punch and Judy shows, Morris dancing and drinking.
So lets raise the flag and hang out the bunting and celebrate what is good about little old England.
