Fireworks to End the Year in Style!
Fireworks bring you joy no matter what age you are and there is a huge variety to choose from! You’ve got your barrages,
you’ve stocked up on rockets and now it’s time to take your firework display to the next level!
Catherine Wheels
If you have a fair amount of space in your garden or venue and a post to mount them, then you have to pick up some wheels! They are perhaps the most mesmerising of fireworks, as they change colour and effect as they spin and occasionally screech round to keep you on your toes. They are both thrilling and inexpensive. You can pick up a pack of 5 Cyclone Wheels for as little as £5.99 or a mighty pack of 3 Reliant wheels for a bargain £12.99!
Roman Candles
The most important thing to remember with Roman candles is that they must go in the ground and that they are not to be held when setting off. Misconception about these fireworks has caused them to be banned in parts of the world. Roman candles are tubular fireworks that set off in layers giving you a succession of shots one after the other as the firework burns down. If you want a hefty candle to keep the display going then try V-E Day, which has 55 huge shots. If you’re just looking for a nice gap filler then we have Lunar or Dual Shock and for something more of a novelty, Atomiser which are a steal at £1.99! Continue reading → -
Rockets Are A Winner!
When it comes to fireworks, you absolutely must have rockets! Whether they are the core of your display or to fill in the time between your barrages, they are a firework night staple.
Cheap and Cheerful
You can get some real bargains when it comes to rockets so if you’re on a budget, have no fear! Small packs like Star Gazer give you a mix of 5 small rockets for only £4.99 or how about 5 for £9.99 with 5-Alive? They might not wake the neighbours, but they’ll make a nice addition to any garden display. Continue reading → -

Cheap and Cheerful
Looking for a display for less than a tenner? While it doesn’t leave you with a lot of bang for your buck, you can get a nice little show out of £10. You can get one or two small barrages such as Star War at this level, they won’t be huge, but the kids will love them and because they are on a single light fuse, they’re simple, safe and easy to use. Up your budget to £20 or £30 and you can have a lot more fun! You can keep to the small stuff and get more to bulk out your party or you can move up a size and get the party going. Try one of our most popular barrages, Jitterbug for a stunning variety display! Continue reading → -
Guy Fawkes Night!
Remember, remember, the 5th of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot! Start your November in true traditional British style, remembering Guy Fawkes with fireworks of course!
Guy Fawkes
The Gunpowder Plot is one of Britain’s most famous attempts on the life of a monarch. In 1605 a group of 13 Catholic men planned to kill King James I by blowing up the Houses of Parliament with him and many others inside. After being oppressed under the rule of Queen Elizabeth I English Catholics had had enough. Robert Catesby led the group who managed to acquire 36 barrels of gunpowder and plant them in the cellar of the House of Lords. Unfortunately for them, the group were betrayed and their plan was foiled. On the night between 4th and 5th November, the cellar was stormed and group member Guy Fawkes was found along with the gunpowder. He was then captured, tortured and finally executed. Was he framed? Americans will be waving their flags high and singing out their national anthem as American Independence Day is near! On Monday 4th July the USA will be alive with celebration of their most famous national holiday! This year will mark the 240th year.
Why The 4th July?
The 4th July is a holiday known worldwide and is a celebration of American independence. In 1776 the second continental congress met in secret to vote on the resolution of independence to separate them from the rule of Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was written up by Thomas Jefferson with the help of other members of the comity and signed on 4th July that year. Continue reading → -
Chinese New Year 2015
Here in the UK our year is already off to a flying start, but for the Chinese, their New Year is just about to begin!
Chinese New Year is the biggest of all Chinese festivals and a public holiday in many parts of the world where there are Chinese communities. Celebrations often last for 15 days, but traditionally they would begin on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month and end on the 15th of the first lunar month. Modern society makes it much harder to hold such long festivities, but both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are always alive with celebrations.
Thursday 19th February marks the start of the year of the goat on the Chinese lunar calendar; it may also be viewed as the year of the ram or sheep due to different readings of the Zodiac animals. While China adopted the Georgian calendar in 1911, traditions have always remained. After switching calendars “New Year” did not seem a fitting name for the celebration so it became known as Spring Festival. Continue reading → -
