We here at Hollywood have been in the Halloween dress-up business for a long time. Over the years, we’ve gotten well acquainted with the classic costumes to which everyone reliably returns. But then we’ve also seen some weird and wonderful submissions in that same period – those strange, slightly unhinged creations which are guaranteed to get people talking.
This roadkill costume falls quite firmly into the latter category. It consists of a bunny suit with a large, bloodstained tyre track running through the centre. It pays tribute to all of the rabbits which have suddenly darted in front of speeding vehicles, and paid the ultimate price. Of course, rabbits and cars are not a happy coupling. The result of their union, inevitably, is a bloodstained bumper and a flattened leporid.
For the people who’ve caused such fatalities, this costume will likely prove highly distasteful – which is part of its charm! The brain of the poor little rabbit did not evolve to deal with modern contrivances like the internal combustion engine and the Highway Code – and it’s hard not to feel a little guilty at how modernity so ruthlessly squishes their fluffy little bodies.
